Composition

In the progression of my art I've made many decisions and gone through many stages:
Drawing or Painting?
Illustration or Traditional subject matter?
Watercolor, acrylic, or oil?
Learning my materials and techniques(ongoing)
What am I trying to say?
Now I'm working very hard to learn good compostion. Not just placement of elements but lighting and color, how it all works together to create a unified whole. At this point I find that simple arrangements are the most successful. The question arises then, how to progress in order to create compositions which with more elements and still remain elegant and unified. Hmmm...

Pencil drawing

Thanks to all for a great meeting last night, especially the treats. I have made an effort to improve the contrasts in this drawing. Sometimes I feel like I have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to value. Pictured above is my little can of Quic Kleen, you sprinkle it over your drawing and it picks up extra graphite. It helps keep line crisp and reduces smudges.

Rebecca's Show

I've posted a brief report on our group attendance of Rebecca's show over on Silver Apples. Rebecca has also blogged about it's creation. If you haven't read her accounts, please do! They, like her show, are delightful.
